Summer makeup looks perfect the sunkissed look

639 673 Vanity Van

First in our blog series of summer looks our team have come up with some simple summer makeup hints and tips so you can recreate the latest looks.

The key to summer makeup starts with that elusive lit-from-within dewy skin glow. We all want it, and we’ve all at some point or another tried to get it by slathering on glitter filled makeup products that promise a J low glow – but end up looking more like a disco ball!. Dewy skin looks natural and youthful – to master this look you will need a good quality foundation and an excellent skincare regime. Ensure you exfoliate, use a hydrating moisturiser and drink plenty of water.

summer makeupBegin by using a glowing primer to ensure the skin glows from underneath your foundation. Sparingly apply a lightweight foundation or bb cream using a tapping motion and a damp beauty blender – blend, blend and blend some more.

For areas that require more coverage apply a liquid concealer dabbing gently with a finger for perfect coverage. Set any shiny areas with a translucent pressed powder. Add some liquid bronzer to areas that naturally catch the sun to warm up the skin and give a super sun-kissed glow. Finish with some rosy peachy pink cream blush to the apple of the cheeks and dab the same colour onto the lips for a natural lip stain. A touch of highlighter on areas which catch the light such as the tops of the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and just above the brows and cupids bow will offer that sun-kissed shimmer – however, remember for this look less is more!

summer makeup
Apply an eyeshadow primer to your lids before applying any eye makeup – without a primer your shadow will crease. For an easy eye look, apply a wash of shimmery eyeshadow all over the lids, use a neutral, bronze tone, finishing the look with your favourite mascara.

Set the look with a finishing spray to hold the summer glow in place for those balmy evenings. Allowing your inner beauty to shine through…

Royal Wedding fever Meghan Markle beauty secrets

royal wedding meghan markle

Even with the pressure of her role as a royal to be and planning a royal wedding Meghan Markle manages to keep her skin radiant and glowing and her natural make up look on flick. We have delved into Meghan’s beauty routine to try and understand her secrets and can reveal some of her favourite makeup and beauty products…

1. Kate Somerville Quench hydrating face serum – whether she’s hanging out with Prince Harry or spending Christmas dinner with Queen Elizabeth II, Meghan Markle always has a glow about her.

2. Laura Mercia illuminating primer. – Meghan doesn’t wear foundation unless she’s filming so uses this cult product after moisturiser to give her skin a dewy glow. Lydia Sellers her former hair and make up artists said even when she has to be made up she has been known to ask ‘Can we just make sure my freckles are peeking through? I don’t want a ton of foundation,'” so she used the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation with a Beautyblender to create her dewy look.

3. Diorshow Iconic Mascara – Meghan eyes are arguably one of her best features, and in order to accentuate them she swears by using an eyelash curler first to open up the eyes then lashings of Dior mascara adding volume and definition.

4. Charlotte Tilbury’s matte revolution lipstick – in very Victoria, is Meghans go to. Its a beautiful natural taupe nude shade to compliment her glowing skin. These days for that extra royal touch she also loves to add a little shine to her lips. We cannot wait to see what look she goes for at the Royal Wedding.

5. Nars Orgasm blusher – Megan even has her naughty side – she once told Beautybanter that she can’t live without Nars’ Orgasm, the “perfect rosy flush tone that brightens the face.” We love this about her!

6. Tea tea oil – Meghan revealed she can’t travel without it! It’s not the most glamorous thing, but if you get a cut, a mosquito bite, a sudden breakout, no matter what it is ‘it’s my little cure all Meghan said.

7. Kerestase relax treatment – Hair wise the press went wild when she wore a low messy bun that looked like she had done it herself for her engagement photos – we love her relaxed style. Her hair and make up artist used Oribes volumizing spray to prep the hair and give it a boost and a Kerestase relax treatment to keep things smooth.

So for this weekends Royal Wedding celebrations in honour of this natural beauty bring out your inner princess Megan and rock a natural dewy look with stunning voluminous lashes, a rosy flush and nude shiny lips.

Chocolate Lip Scrub DIY

Our lips are still suffering the effects of winter, and are looking a little parched. Here’s a super quick and easy recipe for a homemade scrub to banish the chapped lips, just in time to make the most of spring lippie shades!

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons Dark Cocoa
1½ cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
⅓ cup grapeseed oil

Simply mix all your ingredients together. To store, pop mixture into small jars (this scrub makes a gorgeous Easter gift too!)

To use:
Apply to your lips and gently rub in a circular motion for about a minute, then either wipe off or lick your lips (just try to resist eating the entire jar)

So, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably aware of a certain well known chocolate spread going viral after a video emerged of it being used as a hair-dye by a hairdresser in Dubai. Obviously, we had to check it out, and it turns out that Nutella truly CAN be used to tint light blonde hair temporarily. If you are after a hazelnut hue (pun intended) to calm a brassy blonde, then this mixture of Nutella and condensed milk, may be for you. However, whilst the oils in Nutella are certainly beneficial to hair, one must wonder if it is worth the hassle and the wastage of a perfectly good snack! We remain undecided on this one!

Chocolate Face Mask

We all love to eat it but what about putting chocolate on your skin? I don’t know about you but our team were a little dubious. However, research has shown that flavonoids found in dark chocolate absorb UV light, help improve blood flow to the skin, and improve the skins hydration and complexion!

Home made chocolate face masks are very easy to make just create a paste with 2-3 tablespoons of dark cocoa powder and 2-3 tablespoons of natural yoghurt. The yoghurt contains lactic acid to help unclog pores. Apply this to your face with clean fingertips and let it sit for 10-15 mins before washing off.

Top Tip: for extra hydration, try adding a spoonful of mashed avocado to your mix!

As if we needed any further excuse to slather ourselves in chocolate, head to toe!

Christmas nails

Do it yourself Christmas nails on point

634 508 Vanity Van

Christmas party season is well and truly in full swing, there will be a surge of Christmas parties and family get togethers that will require that extra a touch of glam. A great way to add some festive spirit to an outfit is to accessorise with Christmas nails.

Simple party nails beginners guide

Prep your Christmas nails by removing any existing colour, file & shape, tidy your cuticles, and apply a single base coat.

Christmas nails

Step 1: once your base coat has dried, apply your chosen colour, apply two coats.
Step 2: Take your glitter polish & starting from the nail edge, bring your brush down halfway towards your cuticle, so you are painting in the opposite direction to which you normally would, creating sparkly tips.
Step 3: The glitter will naturally vary in application, you can build it up by applying another coat.
Step 4: complete your look by adding a top coat to create a shiny finish.
Top Tip: Dark or rich colours are great but nude colours with gold and silver all equally work well.

Secret to healthy winter nails

‘Tis the season’ for chapped lips, dry skin and- you guessed it- brittle, cracked, weak nails. But all hope is not lost, there are plenty of ways for us to combat the damaging effects of the coldest season on our nails.

Nails hate winter due to moisture loss.  Healthy nails contain 18 percent water on average. In winter you’re constantly moving between the hot, dry air indoors and the freezing temperature outdoors. Dried out nails are more likely to break, split, and chip.christmas nails

Intense hydration is the name of the game. Reach for that rich winter hand cream to your hands and nails after every hand washing. Pay particular attention to your cuticles to help stimulate healthy nail growth.

At night rub on cuticle oil (olive oil also works) And once a week, step things up with an intensive treatment.
1, Soak nails in lukewarm water.
2, Coat them with cuticle oil and a rich hand cream.
3, Slip on some cotton gloves for at least an hour.

Our top five tips for minimal make up

862 574 Vanity Van

In recent years, we have noticed the heavy-handed approach to make up application has been a consistent trend. We have been packing layer upon layer of makeup onto our faces, to the point where we wouldn’t have looked out of place on a night out with Ru Paul Charles…

After years of celebrminimal makeupity inspired trends of contouring, highlighting, strobing, baking and applying make up with all manner of random objects… cue summer 2017 and the welcome appearance of the minimal makeup trend.
We can almost hear our pores breathing a sigh of relief.
It’s time to strip it all back ladies and embrace a fresh-faced feel for summer.

Whether you are going au naturel to be on trend, detox your skin, or simply out of sheer laziness(let’s face it girls, we all have those days) we have our top 5 tips to create a fresh minimal face this season.

Tip 1 – Skin: Your skin is your canvas. To give you the absolute best result possible, ensure you have a fantastic, clean, fresh and hydrated base to start with by exfoliating, cleansing and moisturising regularly. Drink plenty of water and always ALWAYS remember to take off your makeup before heading to bed.

Tip 2 – Base: Embrace the ‘less is more’ approach. Ditch the foundation and consider a BB or CC cream. If going bare-faced is just too far out of your comfort zone try a mineral makeup powder. Concealer is your best friend for any problem areas, but keep it light and avoid caking it on….and don’t forget to blend!

Tip 3 – Eyes: We are going for natural, so put down the eyeliner and step away from the falsies! Keep the eye-shadow light and natural, and finish up with a slick of mascara – no spider lashes ladies… Brows should be tamed but not too overdone, try a clear or tinted brow gel to wrangle stray hairs and keep them looking groomed yet natural.

Tip 4 – Lips: A tinted lip balm should be a staple addition to any self-respecting woman’s handbag, and Is a perfect way to add a natural flush of colour whilst keeping your pout plumped and hydrated.

Tip 5 – Cheeks: Aim for a natural ‘flush’. A peach cream-blush will give you an understated pop of colour yet keep your skin dewy. A touch of highlighter to add to your radiance, and a dusting of bronzer on the high points of your face will give you a sun-kissed glow, and you’re good to go!
