Winter Skincare Hacks to Beat the Cold

Nobody wants to wake up on Christmas morning with dry, flaky skin, so make sure you’re hot on your Winter skincare during the lead up to Christmas celebrations. Even an ice queen needs a treatment or two to keep her skin in check during the Winter months, so when dry skin makes an unwelcome appearance, use these simple DIY skincare hacks to help tackle it and beat the cold.

Curse of the chapped lips

An effective, nourishing lip scrub on the beauty market can make take an unwanted toll on your bank account, especially around Christmas time. Stop scraping your pennies together, ladies, because we have a recipe that is on par with your high-end lip scrubs, and not to mention it is 100% vegan! A staple this holiday season is a peppermint lip scrub- the perfect, festive scent to have just in time for Christmas.

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp ground coffee
1/4 Tbsp coconut oil
1-2 drops peppermint essential oil

Measure two tablespoons of used coffee grounds in a small bowl. Add the coconut oil and using a spoon, mash the oil and coffee grounds together to form a paste. Add 1-2 drops of peppermint oil and mix well. Place it into a pot you have lying around, and you will have smooth, plump lips all throughout the Winter season.

Body care

Although the main focus of your Winter skincare regime is typically caring for your face, your body care should be drawing in first place. An essential body care item in the colder months is oil, as simple as it may seem. Using oil during the Winter months is not only beneficial in giving you hydrated, happy skin, but it is also the key to locking in your favourite perfume or body spray all day long. Simply spray the oil all over your body before spraying on your staple scent and it will not budge, leaving you free to carry out your Christmas shopping in the hustle and bustle B.O. free!

DIY Mocha Face Mask

This recipe is incredibly simple and consists of everyday ingredients that you will have lying around in the back of the food cupboard. It is bursting full of anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, so it acts as a mild exfoliator while also being super hydrating!

Ingredients:
⦁ Oats
⦁ Ground coffee
⦁ Cacao powder
⦁ Soy milk

Simply combine the ingredients together before applying evenly to your skin and allowing it to work it’s magic for 10 minutes. This mocha face mask also works as a great homemade Christmas present to a loved one, whether it’s your partner, friend or parent, as it is virtually impossible to dislike the scent of mocha.

High winds, freezing temperatures batter your face and home heating draws the moisture from the air which in turn pulls moisture out of your skin. Try these quick, organic face scrubs and masks that the Vanity Van team have put together for you to help rehydrate and rejuvenate tired complexions. There are so many natural store cupboard ingredients we can utilise – have fun with food facials !

Vanity Van facialsAvocado face mask

Avocados are known for nourishing and revitalising the skin. They are packed with skin-friendly minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, copper, magnesium, etc. Vitamin A, E and K along side unsaturated fats.
Excellent for dry skin and all skin types in the winter months.

1/4 ripe avocado, mash it up in a bowl until it turns lump free. Mix into the pulp 1 teaspoon of plain organic yogurt and 1/2 teaspoon of honey. Stir them well until you get a paste of uniform consistency.
Apply evenly onto your skin for 10-15 mins. Rinse off with Luke warm water and pat skin dry with a soft towel.

 

Banana face mask

Who needs Botox when you have Bananas! Mash up a medium sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10-20 mins then rinse it off with cold water.

When you apply a mask another tip is slice thinly some cucumber to stick over your eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Vanity Van facials

Simple Sugar Facial Scrub
1 tsp organic cane sugar ( or granulated sugar)
1-2 drops of water
1-2 drops orange, lemon, lavender essential oil.

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Using the tips of your fingers, gently rub scrub into clean face. Take care to avoid the eyes. Remove by rinsing with cool water, and pat dry with a clean towel.

Honey and Oatmeal Facial Scrub
1/2 Cup of uncooked oats
2 tbsp honey
1 tsp nutmeg
15 drops lavender essential oil
15 drops melaleuca essential oil
1 tsp dried lavender
Mix all ingredients together and apply  straight to the face and décolletage. The blend of ingredients will help to reduce breakouts, even skin tone, and moisturise.
