Do it yourself Christmas nails on point

Christmas party season is well and truly in full swing, there will be a surge of Christmas parties and family get togethers that will require that extra a touch of glam. A great way to add some festive spirit to an outfit is to accessorise with Christmas nails.

Simple party nails beginners guide

Prep your Christmas nails by removing any existing colour, file & shape, tidy your cuticles, and apply a single base coat.

Step 1: once your base coat has dried, apply your chosen colour, apply two coats.
Step 2: Take your glitter polish & starting from the nail edge, bring your brush down halfway towards your cuticle, so you are painting in the opposite direction to which you normally would, creating sparkly tips.
Step 3: The glitter will naturally vary in application, you can build it up by applying another coat.
Step 4: complete your look by adding a top coat to create a shiny finish.
Top Tip: Dark or rich colours are great but nude colours with gold and silver all equally work well.

Secret to healthy winter nails

‘Tis the season’ for chapped lips, dry skin and- you guessed it- brittle, cracked, weak nails. But all hope is not lost, there are plenty of ways for us to combat the damaging effects of the coldest season on our nails.

Nails hate winter due to moisture loss.  Healthy nails contain 18 percent water on average. In winter you’re constantly moving between the hot, dry air indoors and the freezing temperature outdoors. Dried out nails are more likely to break, split, and chip.christmas nails

Intense hydration is the name of the game. Reach for that rich winter hand cream to your hands and nails after every hand washing. Pay particular attention to your cuticles to help stimulate healthy nail growth.

At night rub on cuticle oil (olive oil also works) And once a week, step things up with an intensive treatment.
1, Soak nails in lukewarm water.
2, Coat them with cuticle oil and a rich hand cream.
3, Slip on some cotton gloves for at least an hour.

Fathers Day

fathers day male groomingIt’s about that time of year folks! Time to make a fuss of the Dads, Grandads, Step-Dads, and any other significant men in our lives.

Father’s Day is fast approaching and let’s be honest, it really doesn’t get the same level of hype as Mother’s Day! Now, we know Mums are super special, but then so are Dads…which is why, here at Vanity Van, we strive to make sure we offer a full range of treatments to men as well as women…because, why not! Men deserve a little bit of a pamper too, and we are happy to oblige with some hints and tips of how you can spoil your man with some tailored male grooming.

Beard and Moustache care and maintenance

Whilst the 90’s and 00’s offered up a plethora of cleanly shaven men, seeming to defy ageing and maintaining the facial appearance of an 11-year-old boy at all times… the 2010’s saw the rise of the hipster approach to facial-fuzz, and it isn’t going anywhere! Quality over quantity is key here. We have seen a huge surge of popularity in beard and moustache maintenance, keeping facial-topiary tidy and groomed thereby avoiding the ‘homeless chic’ look that is to be avoided…. Your local barber will be able to offer you a full range of trimming and grooming treatments, along with recommendations of moisturising and conditioning oils.

The principle method of shaving since its introduction in 1680, straight razors somewhat faded into obscurity in the mid-20th century once the electric razor and safety razor made an appearance. However, since the early 2010’s, the cut throat shave has been making somewhat of a resurgence, now considered to be the pinnacle of class and status. We highly recommend a wet-shave with traditional cut-throat razor blades, which, when combined with an invigorating hot towel treatment and nourishing moisturisers and oils, makes for the perfect treat for any gentleman.

Skin Care

With the abundance of skin-care products now available, specifically formulated for men, there is no longer any excuse whatsoever for neglecting facial-skin-care routines (nor stealing a dollop or five of your girlfriend’s beloved – and ridiculously overpriced – products). We recommend the full shebang of scrubs, facial wash, cleanser, toner, and moisturiser. However, your own preferences and indeed skin-type will dictate more closely as to which ranges and products are most suitable for you….and if in doubt, ask!
